New 4x4s Will Help Council Reach Remote Areas

North Lanarkshire Council has acquired two new 4x4s to help the local authority gain access to more rural locations in the region.

An article in Motherwell Times revealed it has taken delivery of the SsangYong Korando vehicles so the council can get more involved in community projects that are in remote areas.

The Justices Services Team will be mainly using the motors to help with their assessment and management of offenders, while the vehicles will also allow home care workers to travel to different sites more easily thanks to their all-terrain tyres.

Speaking with news provider, placement manager for the Justice Services Community Payback Team Jim Curtis said: “Out Justice Services Team want to ensure that the local community is confident that they’re working hard to reduce the risk of harm to local people, that it’s addressing victim issues, and that it’s contributing to the rehabilitation of offenders.”

He added the Korandos will enable the team to “engage with harder-to-reach rural communities and, in addition, will be an asset helping home care workers travel around in dubious weather”.

Frasers of Falkirk delivered the 4x4s to the local authority earlier this month, with principal dealer David Wishart telling the newspaper the motors will be “great assistance” to the council in boosting its community engagement.

Something users of the vehicles will need when accessing these remote locations is a CB network radio. This will enable them to stay in contact with others at the council and get in touch should they require assistance, for example if they break down or meet inclement weather conditions.
